Reasons integratorsmake the move.

Where D-Tools Cloud is strong

A larger product library (1M+ vs 600K+), the mature D-Tools system-design lineage (deeper drawing tools, wire calculations, and interconnect diagrams ship in their desktop System Integrator product), a dedicated service management module with service plans and scheduling, and inventory management already in production. For mid-to-large commercial integrators running complex multi-phase projects with detailed engineering documentation, the D-Tools stack has deeper design and back-office capabilities.

Where Specifi wins

Tools D-Tools doesn't offer at any price: a professional website builder, social media management with AI content creation, and a full marketing suite. Specifi's CRM ships pipeline management, lead scoring, and native Gmail / Office 365 sync. Create customers, projects, work orders, and invoices directly from your inbox. The customer portal gives clients a branded space to view projects, approve change orders, and pay invoices.

Bottom line

The D-Tools stack (Cloud + System Integrator) is strong for engineering-heavy, mid-to-large commercial integrators who need deep system-design tools alongside a massive product library. Specifi is the better choice for integrators who want one platform covering marketing, proposals, CRM, project delivery, and invoicing without hidden costs or bolt-on pricing.

The $99 sticker is notthe working floor.

D-Tools Cloud's Single tier is advertised at $99 a month, which reads cheap on the page. The working floor is closer to $149 a month once the $50-per-month QuickBooks (or Xero) integration is added so invoices post to the books, and Gold Support adds another $10 to $100+ per month depending on tier if the team wants priority live chat, phone, or screen-share help. The D-Tools Cloud working bill ends up close to Specifi's Individual tier sticker, except that Specifi's number already includes accounting sync, priority support, ongoing training, AI, and the marketing suite. The price comparison usually does not start in D-Tools' favour the second time you run the maths.

The second pressure point is what is not in the D-Tools stack at any price: marketing. There is no website builder, no SEO tooling, no social-media workflow, no managed marketing offer. So the integrator still pays for a separate website host, a separate social tool, a separate analytics dashboard, and a separate content marketing solution. D-Tools is excellent at engineering and design depth, and credible at proposals and CRM at the higher tiers, but the front of the business (how clients find you and decide to call you in the first place) lives outside the platform. Specifi consolidates that surface (website, Echo social media, SEO, blogs, managed services) into the same flat fee.

A migration team thathas done this before.

Specifi's onboarding team has migrated enough D-Tools customers to have the path down to a repeatable process. Product libraries, proposal templates, project history, and client records all carry across. The technical translation from D-Tools' data model into Specifi's customer-and-project model is well-trodden; the awkward edges (custom fields, attachment migration, multi-phase project history) are handled as part of the migration rather than left as homework. Most teams complete the switch in two to three weeks, including the side-by-side period where both platforms run live in parallel so nothing breaks in production.

After the switch, the operational change shows up in two places. First, the front of the business (website, social media, SEO, blogs, lead capture into CRM) is now in the same platform as the proposals and projects rather than scattered across third-party tools. Second, the cost line on the chart of accounts that used to read 'D-Tools + QuickBooks integration + Gold Support + website host + social tool + marketing analytics' becomes one line. The Monday morning that used to start with reconciling those tools simply stops being the way Monday starts.

Engineering depth and amillion-line product library.

D-Tools has three genuine strengths Specifi does not match today. The 1 million+ dealer-priced product library is the largest in the market. The desktop System Integrator product has deeper system-design tools (drawing, wire calculations, interconnect diagrams) than anything in our stack. And the service-management module with dedicated service plans and scheduling is more mature than our equivalent. If pure engineering depth on complex commercial projects is the load-bearing part of your operation, and the marketing, CRM, and operating-platform gaps are gaps you cover with other tools anyway, the D-Tools stack remains a credible choice and we will say so on the demo. Specifi typically wins the conversation when the firm wants to consolidate the front of the business and the back of the business into one platform rather than running engineering depth as the central pillar.

They switched. Theyhaven't looked back.

500+Used by integrators globally

What is the best D-Tools alternative for AV integrators?
Specifi is the most credible D-Tools alternative for AV integrators who want proposals, CRM, project management, invoicing, and marketing in one place at one flat fee. D-Tools Cloud handles design, system integration, and procurement well; Specifi extends past that into the parts of the business D-Tools does not cover at any price: website building, Echo social media, SEO, managed marketing services, a customer portal, native Gmail and Outlook sync, and Bob the AI across the stack.
Is Specifi cheaper than D-Tools Cloud?
The $99 /mo D-Tools Cloud Single sticker is real, but the working floor with the $50 /mo QuickBooks / Xero integration is $149 /mo, and Gold Support adds another $10-$100+ /mo depending on tier. Specifi's flat fee already includes accounting sync, priority support, and ongoing training, so the like-for-like comparison usually lands in Specifi's favour for small-to-mid integration firms.
Can I migrate from D-Tools?
Yes. Our onboarding team has migrated many D-Tools users. Product libraries, templates, and proposal history all carry over.
Does Specifi do cable schedules?
Yes. Auto-generated from the product list: cables, networks, Rako schematics, wiring schematics.
Isn't D-Tools Cloud cheaper at $99 /mo?
The $99 /mo Single-tier sticker is real, but you'll want the $50 /mo QuickBooks / Xero integration to post invoices to your books. That takes the working floor to $149 /mo. Add Gold Support ($10-$100+ /mo depending on tier) if you want priority live chat, phone, or screen-share help. Specifi's equivalent floor is one flat fee with accounting sync, support, and ongoing training already included.
What does D-Tools Cloud do well that Specifi doesn't?
Their 1M+ dealer-priced product library is the largest in the market, their desktop System Integrator product has deeper system-design tools (drawing, wire calculations, interconnect diagrams) than anything in our stack, and their service management module with dedicated service plans and scheduling is more mature. If pure engineering depth for complex commercial projects is your priority, the D-Tools stack is a credible choice.
What does Specifi do that D-Tools Cloud doesn't?
Website building, Echo social media, SEO and blogs, and managed marketing services, none of which D-Tools offers at any price. Plus native Gmail, Outlook and calendar integration (create records straight from your inbox), a full customer portal with project visibility and payments, Bob the AI across the stack, and SureBright extended warranty options.
